| Bruins’ Satan Signing: A Deal with the Devil? Posted: 01 Feb 2010 03:58 PM PST I thought Miroslav Satan was supposed to be an offensive player, no? Since coming to the Bruins, the team has scored a total of 23 goals in 12 games, an average of less than two goals per game. That isn’t very impressive considering Satan was supposed to be this goal-scoring playmaker. Instead, he’s only managed two [...] |
| Posted: 01 Feb 2010 03:47 PM PST We don't talk much girl's hoops here on the blog, but I'd like to give a shout-out to Mercy High School for defeating Manual 57-56 to win the Louisville Invitational Tournament over the weekend. Therese Montano led the way for Mercy with 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocked shots. Mercy is currently 16-5 and ranked No. 3 by the Courier-Journal Litkenhous Ratings. Manual is ranked 2nd at 17-5. This was Mercy's second victory of the season over 25th District rival Manual. |
| Posted: 01 Feb 2010 03:39 PM PST In a rowdy meeting between two top ten Kentucky boy's basketball teams, Scott County made a statement to the rest of the state with an exciting 67-64 victory at Clark County yesterday. Scott County coach Billy Hicks said this game had a "regional championship atmosphere," with over 2,000 high school basketball fans in attendance - and neither squad disappointed. Both teams looked ready to play from the get-go, surely itching to play after the game being postponed until Sunday due to severe weather conditions in the area on Saturday. The competition was heated through-out, as neither team led by more than five in the first three quarters (Scott County by 5 at half). Clark County made a strong third quarter run to tie the game up at 49 headed into the fourth, but it was Scott County's much-maligned defense that pulled out the victory for them. Dakotah Euton, in particular, made two huge defensive plays in the fourth, with back-to-back steals leading to four Scott County points giving them a 65-62 lead. Clark County retaliated with a score to cut the lead to one, followed by a Ge'Lawn Guyn miss on the front end of a one-and-one. Robbie Stenzel lost the ball out of bounds on the next play, however, and Scott's Chad Jackson sealed the victory with a last-second dunk. Jackson was the game's leading scorer, with 27 points. SCOTT CO. (15-5) — Jackson 27, Euton 15, Guyn 8, Flannery 6 Manning 11, Shotwell 0. CLARK CO. (16-5) — Stenzel 21, Zollo 13, Rogers 15, Daniel 8, Kindred 2, Purvis 5. |
| Shelby Valley Repeats In All “A” Posted: 01 Feb 2010 03:21 PM PST Photo by Tim Webb / Lexington Herald-Leader The Shelby Valley Wildcats (18-3) were successful in repeating as small school state champs this past weekend by defeating DeSales (13-8) in the final round of the Kentucky boy's All "A" Classic in Richmond yesterday. The Wildcats got off to a hot start, leading the game 35-20 at half, only to see a scrappy DeSales team hold them to just four third quarter points and cut the Shelby Valley lead to 41-35 in the fourth. The Colts also held Shelby Valley's Mr. Basketball hopeful - and the All "A" Classic MVP - Elisha Justice to just four points the entire game. He shot just 1-for-8 from the field. Shelby Valley was however able to hold off the Colts in the final minute with two big free throws by Tyler Newsome sealing the deal. Final Score: Shelby Valley 46, DeSales 37. Shelby Valley (18-3) — Justice 4, Hatfield 8, Ta.Newsome 12, Varney 6, Ta.Tackett 2, Ty.Newsome 14. DeSales (13-8) — Maynard 5, Brooks 2, Sliter 2, Keehner 6, Ritchie 4, Thornsberry 8, Roush 10. | Posted: 01 Feb 2010 02:28 PM PST Some links… Rocco’s show from PirateFest revealed an interesting statement from Neal Huntington, who does not seem to be very sure about Jose Tabata’s age. Meanwhile, a Post-Gazette reader questions Tabata’s legitimacy as a prospect, and Chuck Finder responds by defending Jose. Remember Byung-Hyun Kim’s miserable spring training experience with the Pirates? He’s back for another go-round, this [...] |
| Twins Sign Joe Mauer to Ten-Year Deal Posted: 01 Feb 2010 01:33 PM PST The Twins have done it again. Once upon a time they were able to keep Kirby Puckett from entertaining thoughts of playing for a big market team. They struck gold again by keeping their hometown hero Joe Mauer for a decade (click to see WCCO’s article). The terms were not released, but it can be assumed [...] |
| Mike Martz is the Bears’ new offensive coordinator Posted: 01 Feb 2010 01:31 PM PST From the Chicago Bears’ Web site: The Bears on Monday hired Mike Martz to be their offensive coordinator. Plain and simple. Chicagobears.com’s Larry Mayer goes on to list a number of Martz’s accomplishments, such as three straight 500-point seasons in St. Louis and NFL head coaching experience. He does not mention if there will be a press conference, [...] |

He hopes to earn a spot on the big club's bench. Johnny Damon wants to play for the Tigers according to Scott Boras. The Tigers have yet to express interest in Damon. |
| Greatest Laker of All Time: Magic or Kobe Posted: 01 Feb 2010 12:42 PM PST There has been recent debate of who’s the greatest Laker ever. The subject has come up because Kobe is 29 points away from passing Jerry West and becoming the Laker’s all-time leading scorer. That is a true milestone. The Laker’s are one of the best franchises in the NBA and they have a lot of hall of famers [...] |
