Why Microsoft is already losing the tablet battle
A decade ago, when Microsoft introduced the first consumer tablet computers, they were seen as another alternative to the desktop. They were full-function computers running full-function Windows, ready to get done whatever your laptop could already do.

IE9 to support just one HTML5 video codec
For several months, Microsoft has been touting the deep support for HTML5 in Internet Explorer 9, which is still under development. The new Web standard is gaining popularity because it reduces the need for bulky browser plug-ins such as Adobe Flash.

Report: HP kills Ballmer's Windows 7 tablet
Less than two days after Hewlett-Packard acquired Palm and inherited the struggling mobile company's operating system, reports say the computer maker has canceled its Windows 7-based tablet PC dubbed "Slate."

After HP-Palm deal, Microsoft loses if it snoozes
Update 9:35 a.m. April 30: Since this analysis was published, reports have surfaced that HP has canceled the Slate because it is unsatisfied with Windows 7 as a tablet operating system. Read more here.
