Microsoft Firm: Digital PC game downloads surpass physical purchases For the first time in PC gaming, digital downloads have surpassed physical purchases, research firm NPD Group said. But in terms of revenue, the industry hasn't made the switch. Windows Small Business Server 7 now in preview Microsoft has released a preview of Windows Small Business Server 7. The operating system is built off of Windows Server 2008 R2, which the company released last October along with Windows 7. The preview, available here to Microsoft Connect members, includes SharePoint Server 2010 SP1, SharePoint Foundation 2010 and Windows Update. Why? Because Ballmer has spoken time and time again about the need for more education funding in Washington state. IE9 beta: 2 million downloads and counting The beta version of Internet Explorer 9, which Microsoft released Sept. 15, was downloaded more than 2 million times during the first two days it was available, Microsoft said. The previous beta, for Internet Explorer 8, was downloaded 1.3 million times. Internet Explorer 9 sports a new look, HTML5 support and hardware-accelerated graphics. Zune services, but not Zune itself, expand internationally In anticipation of the looming launch of Windows Phone 7, Microsoft announced today it is expanding its Zune music and video services beyond U.S. borders. Gartner: Enterprise software sales to grow 4.5% this year Research firm Gartner said today it expects worldwide enterprise software sales to grow 4.5 percent this year, increasing from $222.4 billion in 2009 to $232 billion in 2010. "After declining 2.6 percent in 2009, the worldwide market for enterprise software is recovering well with signs of continuing growth on the horizon," Joanne Correia, managing vice president at Gartner, said in a news release. For North America, Gartner expects an 8.5 percent increase from $102.1 billion in 2009 to $110.8 billion ...
