Shenyang City’s Optimus Prime is the Tallest of Them All

Posted: 31 Jan 2011 06:05 PM PST

Last year, Robin shared with us the tallest Optimus Prime statue ever made. It was displayed outside of the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing, where the 2008 Olympics was held. It stood at 10 meters tall, was made out of junk material, and was brought in from Taiwan.

As impressive as the statue is, yesterday, it had to hand over the distinction of being the tallest Optimus Prime installation in the world. Another Optimus Prime statue was unveiled in China, this time in Shenyang City. This statue weighs in at 21 tons and is 11 meters tall. It is also made of various car parts – taken from 20 cars. Here are some photos of the new record holder for your viewing pleasure.1

Check out that guy at the bottom of the picture to give you an idea of just how tall the statue is!

Here’s a video of the statue in action. Well, it does not really move, but you know what I mean.

Nightmares driven by Twitter? The Charatter bear may be the cause

Posted: 31 Jan 2011 05:48 PM PST

Twitter isn’t for everyone.  Many pose questions to me daily about the service’s value and even after explaining why I spend the majority of my time on Twitter as opposed to Facebook, they still refuse to at least try Twitter.

For those on Twitter the product pictured above may be for you.  It’s not for me, explained later.  For those not on Twitter, and who question why one should use it, the product pictured above will steer them further from the site than they already are.

What is the cute little blue and white bear connected to an iPhone and what does it do? It’s a Charatter bear, an item that reads one’s Twitter stream in quite possibly the most annoying voice one could ever imagine.

WiZ, a Japanese toy manufacturer, has unleashed the cute and freakishly sounding little item to the masses for a mere $28 USD.

Depending on how many users one follows, I follow 532 individuals, the Charatter bear will read each and every incoming Tweet to you.  By my count, I’m no math major mind you, that equates to hearing the nightmare-causing voice of the Charatter bear once every 8-12 seconds for as long as you have the little guy up and running.

Lest you think I’m being overly dramatic concerning the bear’s annoying nature, take a look at the video below and then let me know if you find it as frightening as I do, or if you’d purchase a Charatter bear for yourself or another.

Sega Lets Anarchy Reign

Posted: 31 Jan 2011 11:34 AM PST

Sega has taken the wraps off a new multiplayer brawler from Platinum Games that puts a whole new spin on the genre. Anarchy Reigns pits you against multiple opponents — all at the same time — in a huge arena in a gory, online battle royale. Various modes of play will allow for differing challenges such as a tag team round.

The game’s director, Masaki Yamanaka, describes the twist Platinum has devised for the game’s design philosophy as having over the top fist-to-fist action. “The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat are both amped up far beyond what you would ever experience in a shooter,” he explains. You can get a taste of what he means in the first screens and the announcement trailer below.

Platinum Games is known for its innovative games such as Vanquish, Bayonetta, MadWorld, and the Nintendo DS title Infinite Space.

Anarchy Reigns will be available this Fall for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Interested gamers might want to bookmark anarchyreigns.com.

Latest Steampunk creation an iPhone and Android stand, weapon or both?

Posted: 31 Jan 2011 09:16 AM PST

Do regular iPhone, Android, iPod Touch, or any other smallish, portable device stands result in you uttering, “meh?”

Do you long for a stand that could, in a pinch, be utilized as a weapon, and which will not only get people talking about your device stand, but might also scare the living hell out of them?

If any of the above apply to you, we’ve got the perfect accessory.

The Steampunk Accessory Stand for iPod, iPhone, Android, or whatever… is one monster of a stand.  According to the creator,

“This wicked little stand will support your iphone, your android, or even your old 1972 rotary phone!”

“This little monster stands 7.5″ tall and is 7″ at it’s widest span. The center spar has a lower notch than the rest- which will accommodate a charging cord when the phone is in an upright position.”

Head to the Etsy Shop for Voodoo Vintage Fabrication, out of Austin, Texas, and one will find not only the super portable device stand above, but also:

“Original and creative design and fabrication…ranging from a simple address sign to a custom motorcycle and everything in between!”

The impressive and certainly unique stand is not only large in size, but also in price.  Setting one back $59 USD, your iPhone, Android or iPod will no doubt be the center of attention when placed in the heavy Steampunk Accessory Stand and your wallet will become lighter for having purchased one.

What do you think of the stand?  Is it odd or awesome?  Will you purchase one?
