Showdown Saturday turns in to Blowout Saturday

Posted: 02 Oct 2011 10:38 AM PDT

A lot of us thought that the list of college football games on Saturday would be provide excitement and great match-ups. You had three games that included teams rated 13 or higher. In other words this was supposed to be "Showdown Saturday." What we saw instead was nothing but whoopings and it quickly turned into "Blowout Saturday." We saw three teams make a huge statement with impressive victories yesterday. Lets start with #3 Alabama, who went in to "The Swamp" and dominated #12 Florida by a score of 38-10. The Crimson Tide looked very strong and powerful, with running back Trent Richardson rushing for 181 yards and two touchdowns. The defense destroyed Florida's running attack and this might be the best defense that coach Nick Saban has ever coached, and that's saying a lot considering the defenses we've seen under Saban's watch. Alabama looks strong as they continue to move towards a showdown with #1 LSU in November. #7 Wisconsin looked impressive in giving a rude Big Ten welcome to #8 Nebraska, winning this highly anticipated game 48-17. The Badgers look scary with QB Russell Wilson in the mix to compliment an always powerful running game. Wisconsin definitely looks like the favorite to win the Big Ten Conference and possibly contend for a BCS national title. Last but not least, #13 Clemson made a huge statement by going to Blacksburg and handling #11 Virginia Tech 23-3. We all know Clemson has always had talent but could never get that signature win to make them a legitimate threat to challenge for a title. This win on the road might be the win Clemson needs. They should be a favorite to win all of their games except maybe the game in Georgia Tech coming up in November. So there you have it. You saw three teams in Alabama, Wisconsin, and Clemson who established themselves as players in this year's BCS picture. Now it time to look forward to next week and the Red River Shootout(I will always call it the shootout)between Texas and Oklahoma. Time to "Hook 'em 'Horns." More on this game later this week.
